Minister
Whether you have arrived at our new website through casual surfing or if you are looking for a community that may answer your spiritual needs you are warmly welcomed, and I hope you find what you are looking for in our religious community.
One of the great strengths of being a free religious community comes to the fore when I have been called upon to conduct rites of passage services- funerals, weddings and baptisms- as I am able as a minister to tailor to the personal needs and beliefs of people which in turn make these occasions most special and memorable.
The Unitarians of this congregation have, in years gone by, been central to the development of the city of Birmingham. The spirit of our liberal and open minded approach to religion was expressed through many of the socially responsible institutions such as the Fazeley Street Mission which provided food, clothing, schooling and assistance to the poor.
I am passionate about us continuing the good work of our forebears but in ways that are relevant today. There is, I feel, more need than ever before for people to find a community where they may explore the meaning of their life in an open and honest way without feeling the pressure of having to subscribe to a set of beliefs. Week by week people that are seeking new ways of being religious are finding a home here with us.
I was once one of those people looking for a way to explore my spirituality without having limits placed upon me or my search. I happened across the Unitarian Chapel in Cheltenham where I met a most insightful and deeply inspirational minister. When I moved back to my home of Dorset I worked as landscape gardener. To be in the midst of some of the most beautiful countryside in the England opened up the experiential aspect of my journey and due to this, after being a member of my local Unitarian church for a number of years, I decided to apply for ministry. Thankfully, the movement accepted me for training and I feel most blessed to be able to live, serve and be part of the congregation of Unitarian New Meeting.
