Here are some frequently asked questions about visiting Unitarian New Meeting Church in Birmingham.

What should I wear?
Whatever makes you feel comfortable. If it helps, some people wear Sunday best, other people come in jeans and t-shirts. The minister, Simon, normally wears a suit and tie, and a robe.
How long are services?
On Sundays, our services are normally about an hour long starting at 11am, and on Wednesdays about 45 minutes (starting at 6:30pm).
What are Sunday services like?
The service begins with the lighting of the chalice. Then, normally we have a selection of readings from secular and religious sources, times for silence and music, and an address, all interspersed with hymns. We also sing the Lord’s Prayer, have a collection, and the notices are read out. Most services are taken by our minister, Simon, but sometimes another member of the congregation, or a visiting preacher takes the service instead.
Can I bring children?
Yes. There are several children in the congregation, and we welcome more. Some Sundays we have children’s activities, other Sundays the children join us for the whole service. Find out more by contacting our minister, Simon.
Will there be anyone like me?
There might be. A good time to find out is over tea, coffee and biscuits after the service. Here we sit and chat about the service as well as everything else that’s going on in our lives.
Do I need to believe anything in particular?
No. We are open-minded. Some of us believe strongly in God, and some of us aren’t so sure. Some of us describe ourselves as Christians, and some of us don’t. What brings us together is a sense of community, and a search for truth and meaning. Find out more about our beliefs.
I’m not sure about a formal Sunday service, is there anything else for me?
